Green Box Compost, founded by Ben Stanger, collects residential and commercial food waste. The City of Sun Prairie changed its zoning ordinance to allow commercial composting closer to residential areas, which made the project possible.
The solutionThe site, installed in May 2022, uses one BROME 632 rotating composter (6 × 32 ft) with a conveyor and a mixer for pre-treatment, sized for the volumes to compost. It is installed indoors, in buildings that once housed a dog kennel, protected from extreme weather and animals.
The in-vessel system takes less space than windrows and shortens the time to volume reduction and finished compost; further curing happens in storage bags.
