An animal science research centre uses a Brome composter to test composted manure as a safe, sanitized bedding for dairy cows.
The Centre de recherche en science animale de Deschambault (CRSAD) wanted to know whether recycled manure could be used as bedding for dairy cows without harming herd health or milk quality.
The solutionWith a subsidy from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the CRSAD uses a Brome Compost composter to compost manure into bedding. Composting controls pathogens, which helps the health of the cows’ mammary glands and the quality of their milk.
